So many of childhood drawings include a detached house, a white picket fence and some trees. Some of the more enterprising among us might have even thrown a driveway in there, complete with a garage. Whatever you envisioned for your dream, it’s clear that the first impression you had of it was based on what it looked like from the outside. As we grow up, this doesn’t change. We still want that dream house and we still aspire for it to be beautiful. But with summer coming up, the matter becomes more urgent. You need to entertain people, and you want to make a good impression.
The garden should look nice, and so should the entrance. But if you’re finding yourself having to choose one area to invest in, why not go for the driveway?
First impressions count
If you want to make a good impression on your guests this year then there are some little facts worth noting.
Take this little nugget for instance:
Most people make their mind up about a thing within seconds or minutes of viewing it. When your guests drive up to your home, they may not even realise it, but subconscious thoughts are forming in their minds as they size you up based on the aesthetic appeal of house and garden. It may not be the ‘right’ thing to do but it is true, and unfortunately we all find ourselves doing it. The nooks and crannies of your home will be subliminally signalling to your friends about the depth of your attention to detail. Beautiful plants, gardening and attractive driveway paving can make the world of difference here and leave your guests singing your praises.
